Renate Hirsch Giacomuzzi leads a life that most people would find too luxurious not to have been deliberately staged. Photographer Brigitte Niedermair followed Madame Hirsch with her camera over the course of a year – at official occasions and in her own private realm. Madame Hirsch lights the candles on an opulently decked table, alights from a Venetian gondola in a festive evening gown, is spied at the Oktoberfest in a fancy dirndl, or seen Nordic Walking in the early morning. For her, putting on a show is part of her reality. Always immaculately dressed, she expects the same unerring precision and harmony in her immediate surroundings. The photographer provides a way to access the world of her protagonist aesthetically, yet does not prescribe any particular reading of the images, thus allowing them to be read on several levels.
Brigitte Niedermair (*1971), works in Milan and Paris. She has achieved considerable success as a fashion photographer and has exhibited at Museion, Bolzano; Stadtgalerie Schwaz; Galleria Galica, Milan; Fotogalerie Wien; Ursula Blickle Stiftung, Kraichtal, and many other venues.
