In this book Cholud Kassem presents her recent works groups: The Wudus are heads and masks collaged on paper that bring to mind archaic cultures and animist religions. Kassem also alludes to intercultural and modern motifs, to the dolls she played with as a child, to fantastic aliens or other tongue-in-cheek associations. Her double-tipped Arrows likewise leave room for various interpretations: as signs of aggression or the need of protection, as weapons or trophies, as decorations or magic wands.
Cholud Kassem, *1956 in Baghdad, lives and works in Heidelberg and has exhibited since the 1980s at venues such as the Heidelberg Kunstverein, Galerie Staeck, Heidelberg, or Galerie Tammen, Berlin, and are represented in numerous public collections.
