Jochen Twelker transposes ornamentally patterned textile objects back into a two-dimensional image. He shows their reality as shirts, dresses, or jackets and the way they hang in seeming disorder in a clothes closet, or he shows a T-shirt that just barely suggests the bodily forms beneath it. In the tension between the dissolution of reality in the image and the image’s borrowing from reality, painting asserts itself as a value in itself and declares the image to be its own object of interest.
