The theme of nature, one that as a rule has been pushed to the outskirts of contemporary art, is an essential and powerful constant in the work of Ulrike Rosenbach, the most renowned German video artist internationally. Nature and landscape are almost always associated with the human figure here, however. Already in her early video works from the 1970s, she demonstrated a desire to harmonize human and natural interests in a kind of cosmic unity.
This catalogue presents a new video work on the "four elements." The strong anchoring of the theme of nature in her oeuvre is likewise manifested, however, by the drawings she has turned out consistently since 1969, which are presented here for the first time in this abundance.
The book accompanies an exhibition at the Moderne Galerie, Saarlandmuseum.
