Myriam Thyes (*1963) analyzes cultural symbols of power and belief – whether in the context of religion, architecture, Hollywood films or politics – and illustrates them in her works. Topics such as gender roles, colonialism and myth are some of her focuses. Thyes transforms flags or world maps into graphic animations and film quotes into photomontages and videos. This book presents her most important works during the last ten years. Thyes studied painting and video art at the Academy of Arts in Dusseldorf. In 2005 she received a grant from the Swiss Cultural Affairs Office for her project Flag Metamorphoses, and she won the Depict! Award at the Encounters Short Film Festival in Bristol (UK).
