In her photo and video works, artist Ruth Hutter (*1965) explores issues of communication in the media world and the media’s influence on culture and the individual. She typically incorporates her own face in her pieces, at times distorted beyond recognition. This game of identity is subtly vexing, surprising us with abrupt breaks and unexpected twists.
This publication documents Ruth Hutter’s development as an artist by examining her works over the last five years. Her work has been featured in international exhibitions, including at ArtHaus, Los Angeles; the Kunstverein Wolfenbüttel, the Kunstverein Braunschweig and the Reiss Engelhorn Museums, Mannheim, and she has received numerous grants and awards.
